READING’S brief return to track action ended in disappointment in Thursday night’s Four Team Tournament at Swindon.
The Racers finished in fourth place with 19 points in a meeting which was won by the hosts with a 32 point tally. Cradley Heath were runners-up with 29 and Oxford finished third with 20.
Despite the result for the Berkshire side the night was considered a huge success, with a near 2000 crowd turning out at the Abbey Stadium. The Swindon promotion has already said the event will be staged again in 2010.
The Ideal Video sponsored side got off to a poor start, which wasn’t helped by a Patrick Hougaard fall in heat 1 and Matej Zagar also suffered mechanical problems early on.
Reading trailed in fourth place all night and never looked like catching Swindon or Cradley, but they did make a fight of it in the second half of the meeting and nearly caught Oxford for third place at the death.
